Miocene Dryinidae are relatively well-known compared to other Chrysidoidea families. But most taxa (16 out of 17 described species) derive from the amber mines of the Dominican Republic. Here, a new fossil species of Dryinidae, Thaumatodryinus cotyi sp. nov., is described and figured from the early to middle Miocene of Totolapa (Mexico), and compared to more or less contemporaneous Dominican species. Thaumatodryinus cotyi sp. nov is noteworthy characterized by the testaceous body, the tridentate mandibles, the clypeal anterior margin outcurved, the pronotum striate rugose, the mesopleuron and propodeum areolate rugose, and the propodeum shorter than high. We also propose an up-to-date key to the subfamilies of Dryinidae and summarize the fossil fauna from Totolapa, a deposit hitherto less studied than the coeval amber from Simojovel.
