Eurypterogerron kachinensis gen. et sp. nov., a remarkable minlagerrontid (Hemiptera, Cicadomorpha) in mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber

The family Minlagerrontidae, with some extremely unusual or even grotesque morphological characteristics, is a bizarre true hopper lineage recently documented in mid-Cretacoues Kachin amber. Eurypterogerron kachinensis gen. et sp. nov., as the third genus and fifth species of Minlagerrontidae, is herein described and illustrated from Kachin amber. Except for the highly specialized morphological traits shared with other minlagerrontids, the new genus and species shows some remarkable tegminal characters: the extremely broad costal area, the very narrow and somewhat triangular postcostal cell before the veinlet of R + MP, and the vein CuP distinctly curved in the middle. Our discovery further increases the morphological and taxonomical knowledge of Minlagerrontidae, suggesting that this family was likely high in diversity and disparity in the Kachin amber biota.
