Abstract

Coptoclava longipoda Ping, 1928 (Coleoptera: Coptoclavidae) is an iconic insect fossil widely distributed in the Lower Cretaceous of East Asia. It was erected based on larvae from the Lower Cretaceous Laiyang Formation of Shandong, China, but the corresponding adult has never been reported previously from the type locality. Here we describe the adult Coptoclava longipoda from the type locality. The discovery of a mature C. longipoda female in the type locality provides insight into the adult morphology. Further studies of C. longipoda from other localities and horizons are required to clarify the evolution of the C. longipoda complex. (C) 2018 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
