摘要

Recent reports show Eoplacognathus crassus Chen & Zhang, a previously poorly known Ordovician platform conodont species originally described from China, to be a valuable index fossil that is useful for both local and regional correlations. New information bearing on its occurrence in China forms the basis of a reassessment of the range of this species in terms of graptolite biozones. It occurs in the Pacific Province Acrograptus ellesae Biozone and the Atlantic Province Didymograptus artus Biozone, and it appears to have the potential to serve as an important guide fossil for a portion of the lowermost British Llanvirnian Series as well as for an interval in the lower part of the global Darriwilian Stage.
